VA set to officially break ground on 310 million dollar improvement project

BILOXI, MS - The VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is scheduled to host a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. November 14 to kick off a multi-year, multi-million-dollar construction project.

Project Acorn is a 310 million dollar project to consolidate the Gulfport and Biloxi facilities and modernize the Biloxi campus. Sub-projects include the construction of the first VA community living center of its kind in the country, a mental health facility, a blind rehabilitation facility, and several smaller projects.

Construction work on the first phase of Project Acorn, as it is known locally, actually began several weeks ago, but the official ceremony was postponed while VA officials worked to coordinate the schedules of the proposed speakers.

This deluge of improvements and growth will vastly increase the quality of and access to care within the VA Gulf Coast system.
