Copa Closed But Will Re-Open Soon

The Copa Casino has raised the anchor on a piece of Mississippi's gambling history. The ship that "was" the Copa's dockside gambling facility, and before that its daily cruise to nowhere vessel, has closed. Today, security guards were stationed at the Copa's Highway 90 entrance.

They temporarily directed gamblers away from the Port of Gulfport casino. The Copa re-opens a week from today, in a brand new three story, underwater themed gambling barge.

When the Copa was using its ship, it had 540 employees. Next Thursday, 800 people will help open the new Copa Casino.
