Private company helps recover body at MS Power plant

ESCATAWPA, MS (WLOX) - A private contractor spent Wednesday night, trying to recover the body of a man who fell to his death when the scaffolding he was building collapsed. The fatal accident happened at 5:50 Tuesday morning at Mississippi Power's Plant Daniel in Jackson County.

The man, along with six other workers, were contracted to build a scaffold inside a boiler house at the plant when the platform gave way. The workers fell about 170 feet to the bottom of the boiler, and they were buried under piles of metal and wooden planks.

The coroner said it will take some time to remove the victim's body, because of the large amount of unstable debris. The victim is identified as Henry Pena, III, of Chicago, Illinois.

Two of the six injured workers are still hospitalized. The men worked for LandCoast Insulation of New Iberia, Louisiana. The company and OSHA are investigating the accident.
