Laurel woman killed in accident

LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - A 46-year-old Laurel woman has been killed and three others injured in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 59.

The state Highway Patrol says Tuesday's accident occurred a few miles north of the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport when a Ford Explorer traveling north blew a tire. Authorities say Gwendolyn Walker was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle driven by 49-year-old Jiji Gardner, also of Laurel, when the accident occurred shortly before 2 p.m.

The Ford Explorer rolled over and came to rest in the median. Walker died at the scene. Two unidentified children and Gardner were taken to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment. Authorities say their injuries are not considered life threatening.
