OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs Police Chief Lionel Cothern announced Monday that an arrest has been made pertaining to the recent rash of car burglaries in Maurapas Landing subdivision.

Chief Cothern said that the suspect has been identified as Jarrion Smith, 26 of Weed Street in Ocean Springs.

Capt. Terry Harris, head of Police Investigations, said that around 4am on Friday, October 31, patrol officer Patrick Brandle noticed a suspicious person walking from the Fort Bayou Estates area of Gilford Road towards Bienville Boulevard.

Officer Brandle stopped the man, interviewed him, and finally arrested him after noticing he had burglary tools. Police say a further investigation revealed that Smith was involved in the Maurapas car burglaries, which he has now been formally charged with.

Capt. Harris noted that Smith is also a suspect in other unsolved criminal activity in the Ocean Springs area. He's currently being held in the Ocean Springs city jail under a $50,000 bond.
