St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church celebrated its 100th anniversary this past weekend with a gathering of former and current members. The church, now in its third incarnation, has come a long way since its founding in 1902. Originally centered around a modest wooden-frame building on 31st Avenue, the parish has found a new home in a cavernous, gothic-style church at 1912 East Beach Blvd. in Gulfport.
``This place is just gorgeous,'' said Jane Morten Maupin, who celebrated her first wedding in 1953 at the parish's first church. ``Mine was one of the last weddings in that church, and on one of the hottest days of the year. I remember they had to raise the windows.''
