Mississippi man killed in Louisiana wreck

HOUMA, La. (AP) - Authorities say a 53-year-old Mississippi man has died from the injuries he received in a head-on collision in Louisiana. State police say Rodney Meyers of Lumberton was attempting to pass another car on an overpass Wednesday night when his vehicle hit an oncoming truck.

The wreck in Houma, La., occurred at 6:45 p.m. on the Dularge bridge. Authorities say Meyers' vehicle crossed the center line and moved into the left lane of traffic, trying to pass a car in front of him. He hit an oncoming pickup truck. Both drivers were transported to a hospital for treatment.

Meyers was pronounced dead at the hospital. Alvin Yates, age 60, of Houma, the driver of the truck, sustained what police are describing as moderate injuries.
