LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - A domestic assault call and an obscene gesture to a police officer turned into a chase in Long Beach Monday morning. It ended with the suspect ramming a police car head on.

Long Beach Police Chief Wayne McDowell told WLOX News that just before 11am, one of his officers was responding to a call on South Seal Avenue, when he spotted the suspect vehicle.

After the driver made an obscene gesture, the chief said the officer followed the man. That's when they say the driver made an abrupt turn and rammed the patrol car head on. The airbags in both vehicles were deployed, slightly injuring the officer.

Thanh Long Vu, 40, of Pass Christian was arrested. He's charged with aggravated assault on a police officer. Police say Vu has a long list of prior arrests. He's being held at the Harrison County Jail on $500,000 bond.
