New Rules On Federal Use Of Internet Tracking Software

(Washington-AP) -- Not long after one government agency got caught breaking such rules, the Clinton administration is issuing new rules on how government agencies should use Internet tracking software. The directive from the Office of Management and Budget ban the use of ``cookies'' on federal Web sites, or by contractors who operate Web sites on behalf of federal agencies. The new rules come a day after the White House ordered its Office of National Drug Control Policy to stop tracking computer users who click on anti-drug ads on the Internet.
