Pass Taxes Remain The Same

Mayor Billy McDonald took office in the fall of 1995, and he is proud to say, since he took office seven years ago, city taxes have never been raised.

The city has also managed to give its employees a raise every year since McDonald was elected. This coming year's budget is $5 million and it includes a three percent pay raise for all city employees.

McDonald says he also constantly looking for ways to get grant money for the city. But there is one really big reason why things are looking so rosy for Pass Christian: the new Wal-Mart Supercenter that is about to be built. It will significantly increase the city's sales tax revenues.

McDonald says the additional sales tax revenues from Wal-Mart, would mean more capital improvements, a probable tax reduction, and more employee pay raises.
