Eyesores Come Down

We have an update tonight on some rundown houses in North Gulfport. Action Reporter Steve Phillips first showed us the dilapidated structures during our special report on neighborhood eyesores back in February. The four rundown houses were at the corner of Jackson Street and Indiana Avenue. It took some persistence and patience, but City of Gulfport building official Ron Jones, kept his word that something would be done with those dilapidated houses. A demolition contractor, hired by the city, knocked down the eyesores this morning.

Neighbors had complained about the problem property for years. The vacant houses attracted rodents, vagrants, and vandals. The property owner talked about renovating the structures and the City of Gulfport was willing to consider such a plan. But after months of no improvements, the city council okayed the demolition. And neighbors couldn't be happier.
