LATIMER, MS (WLOX) - The search is over for the people deputies say shot and killed someone.
Jackson County Sheriff's deputies say the crime started as a kidnapping in Louisiana and ended up in a deadly shooting in Mississippi.
It happened Wednesday afternoon on Larue Road in Latimer.
"He had his hands tied behind him, so we feel like he was kidnapped and brought over here and murdered where the vehicle is now," said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd.
Sheriff Byrd says they responded to the rural area of Larue Road after reports of shots being fired. Once they arrived they found one person dead, another critically injured and that's when the manhunt began for the people responsible.
"They placed once subject in custody and the other two subjects were caught beneath the bridge just south of here," said Sheriff Byrd.
Sheriff's deputies arrested three people in connection with the crime. Two men and a woman, all three are from New Orleans.
Apparently the suspects had a long-standing feud with the victims. After an argument, the suspects kidnapped the two victims, somehow ending up in South Mississippi. That's when things went terribly wrong.
"They tried to burn the vehicle to destroy the evidence," said Sheriff Byrd.
Sheriff Byrd says they pulled over on Larue Road in Latimer, shot one victim who tried to run away. They then tied up the other victim and shot him in the back of the head, killing the man.
As all three suspects sit in the Jackson County jail, deputies want to reassure South Mississippians that those responsible will be brought to justice.
The three people in custody are Eddie James Pugh, Barron Lecour Borden and Torenda Brooks-Whitmore.
