Bayside Park Death Now A Murder Investigation

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Hancock County Sheriff's investigators say they've made two arrests in Monday's suspicious death. The investigators are now calling it a murder.

Deputies have charged two Bayside Park men in connection with the shooting death of 60-year-old William Garcia. Dwayne Bridget, 19, has been charged with capital murder and Terrance Crain, 40, has been charged with accessory after the fact.

"We can't go into a lot of details on the murder at this time. It's still an on going investigation and there could be possibly further arrests coming," Sheriff Garber said.

But authorities did say Garcia's body was found in a pool of blood in his MEMA cottage on East Holmes Street.

Laura Lambert, the victim's fiancee, said, "I think it's a shame that a crippled up man had to be hurt or murdered in his own home where he should have been safe. Whoever did this were just mean cause he was so crippled up. It wasn't fair to do this to him."

The Sheriff gave no hint at a possible motive for the shooting, but Lambert did.

"Everybody knew that Mr. William was on heavy pills because of his bones. It could have been they just came by to steal the meds that he had. And everybody knew that William dealt with guns a lot, and it could be they wanted guns. He did have a lot of money on him. And when I found him, I noticed that his billfold and his little safe that he kept medication in were gone," Lambert told WLOX News.

Police say they believe Garcia knew the men now charged in connection with his murder.

"We have a lot of weapons in custody. They are going to do ballistics through the crime lab. We don't know if we have the murder weapon right now or not," Sheriff Garber said.

Crain's bond was set at $1 million, Bridget was given no bond. Both men face an October 7th preliminary hearing date. Sheriff Garber said the suspects have also been linked to several other crimes in Bayside Park.
