Gulfport Base Dedicates Millions In Improvements

The Air National Guard Base in Gulfport is celebrating $28 million in improvements. That includes a state-of-the-art aircraft hanger, a new dormitory with 122 rooms, a new fire rescue station, and the re-location of Hewes Avenue for security reasons.

A number of people came out Thursday for a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the occasion. They included keynote speaker Senator Trent Lott.

"This work is for a good cause. Many of these buildings were antiquated, uncomfortable, and it made it hard to do the job properly. It also affected the quality of life for the men and women who serve here and those who come here." Lott said.

Besides the $28 million in improvements, an additional $2 million in work is ongoing.
