Stone High Band Going To Macy's Parade

The Stone County High School band has been selected to participate in the 2002 76th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The band is one of only 12 high school bands in the nation invited to participate.

Band director, Mohamad Schuman, says the band began gathering the information for the application in May 2000. He believes hard work and perseverance are the reasons the band was chosen over so many others to perform at the parade before a television audience.

In 2001, the Stone High Symphonic Band attended the 55th annual Midwest Clinic, a band and orchestra conference for the top thousandth of all high school bands.

In 2000, the Stone High Symphonic Band won the overall symphonic band award at a 12-week band festival in the Bahamas.

In 1998, the Stone High Band participated in the National St. Patrick's Day Parade in Washington, D.C.

The 170 band members have been polishing up their routine and planning to raise the estimated 128-thousand dollars to pay for the trip.
