Norwegian Buys Equipment From Failed Project America Program

Norwegian Cruise Line will buy the materials and equipment from a failed program to build a cruise ship at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula.

The materials and equipment will be shipped to Europe, where Norwegian will build a 2,000-guest ship to add to its fleet. The company made the announcement Monday.

Northrop Grumman canceled Project America last year, ending the first effort to build a cruise ship in the United States in over four decades.

The ship was being built at Northrop Grumman's Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula. The hull of that ship will be transported by Norwegian to Europe, where work will be finished in an undetermined ship building yard.
