OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Big changes are on the way at The Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs. Architects are working on designs for a $6 million renovation that will significantly change the museum's look and capacity.
The renovated museum will have more gallery space and a new classroom. It's all part of an initiative to make the coast a prime tourist destination. One of the most important improvements, however, will be behind the scenes in the museum's vault.
"The vault itself, we have literally outgrown it. Just since Katrina, our collection of artwork has grown more than 25 percent. It is full to the brim, and we are still collecting. We want a very secure, much larger vault. Maybe three times bigger, so we can care for our art," Gayle Petit-Johnson said.
