The state of Mississippi has launched a new Web site to give people timely information about homeland security.
"Our world has changed dramatically since the events of Sept. 11 and this Web site provides a resource for all Mississippians to be aware of what's happening,'' Gov. Ronnie Musgrove said.
The site lists security tips and gives information about the color-coded threat level system instituted nationwide by the Office of Homeland Security in March. The threat level listed on the Web site Friday was yellow, which stands for an elevated threat condition.
The site says that "an elevated condition is declared when there is a significant risk of terrorist attacks.'' It suggests increasing surveillance of critical locations and coordinating emergency plans with nearby jurisdictions.
Officials said about 20 states have similar Web sites.
