Jackson, Stone Counties Receive Federal Funds For Storm Shelters

The Jackson County School District will receive a $8.7 million federal grant to permanently relocate the St. Martin High School and build a shelter in the new facility.

The shelter will be built to current FEMA shelter standards, providing protection for approximately 2,600 people in 52,000-square-feet of shelter space.

A $1.4 million grant is also being awarded by FEMA to build a shelter on the Stone Middle School campus in Stone County. The 5,000-square-foot facility will be a stand-alone, single use shelter which will provide protection for approximately 500 people.
