An Injury Sends Southern Miss Wide Receiver Rocky Harrison To The Sidelines

Southern Miss sophomore wide receiver Rocky Harrison, a 6-foot-1, 195 pound native of Tampa, Florida lacerated his kidney while making a spectacular catch in Wednesday's scrimmage. He should be released from the hospital on Saturday and most likely will miss from five to six weeks.

Head Coach Jeff Bower held a pair of workouts on Thursday with two more slated for Friday. Bower said, "We had two good workouts today. We lost concentration somewhat during the second practice and I made the players repeat a couple of sessions after practice. We just had too many mistakes during those period and that's just not something we can tolerate."

Senior running back Derrick Nix coming back after missing most of the last two seasons, skipped the Wednesday scrimmage and saw limited practice time on Thursday. He continues to rehab a pulled hamstring. Bower said, "We'll work him a little harder Friday and would like to see him go in the scrimmage, if he's ready.. He's the one guy who best knows how he feels and he'll go when he's ready."

The Golden Eagles are slated to end the week with an 11:00 a.m. Saturday scrimmage.
