Jackson County, OS Road Closings

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd is declaring an immediate curfew for all of the county's unincorporated area until dawn Tuesday morning. Sheriff Byrd implemented the curfew after numerous reports of residents sight seeing, driving through dangerous road conditions, and stalled vehicles in standing water.   

Essential personnel in health/medical care, major industries, news media or emergency responders can still travel throughout the County for work purposes but should carry proper identification. 

The County's Road Department is reporting 19 roads are currently impassable because of flooding or fallen trees. Crews have already cleared three roads with downed trees this morning in the Franklin Creek Community.

  • Lake Mars Avenue
  • Belle Fontaine Road
  • Britney Avenue
  • Bridge Quave Road
  • Beachview Drive
  • Pollock Ferry Landing
  • Dismuke Avenue
  • Shore Drive
  • Lemoyne Blvd. (parts)
  • Orange Grove Road
  • Cumbest Bluff Road
  • Augusta Road
  • Hanover Drive
  • David Road
  • David El Bonito Road
  • Hermosa Road
  • Fontainebleau Road

The following roads have been closed in Ocean Springs, as of Monday at 5pm, due to rising water:

  • Holcomb Bridge
  • Halstead Bridge
  • Pine Drive Bridge
  • Eagle Point
  • Eagle Nest
  • Rayburn @ Desoto Forrest Hill
  • Front Beach
  • East Beach Fort (end)
  • Cove (end)
  • Lover's Lane (west)

    High school students in Harrison County faced a daunting challenge Thursday while learning more about potential future careers. The US Army set up its touring high school challenge in the West Harrison High School gym to put students to the task of working together in teams to solve problems.

    West Hancock Elementary students have hosted a food drive to benefit the Hancock County Food Pantry for two years.  This morning, nearly 20 students representing kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms delivered the food by school bus. Almost 360 students who attend West Hancock collected canned food items and dry goods for the pantry. In fact, one class brought in more than 200 cans alone.

    Murder suspect now in Ocean Springs jail

    Nicky Johns now sits in the Ocean Springs municipal jail. The murder suspect returned to Mississippi sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Johns is accused of killing Christopher Rochelle outside the Travel Lodge Motel in Ocean Springs on September 4.
