CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A group of Detroit-area paramedics and emergency medical technicians are on the Gulf Coast to provide assistance when Hurricane Gustav strikes. Medstar Ambulance emergency personnel left the other day from Macomb County's Clinton Township. The company also responded during hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Medstar Ambulance has readied six ambulances, a special operations vehicle and a command resource trailer for possible rescue help. Meanwhile, four staff members from Tri-Hospital EMS in St. Clair County are on their way to the Gulf Coast region with two advanced life support ambulances. They were expected to arrive in Jackson, Miss. today. Forecasters say Gustav has strengthened to a Category 4 storm.
