Local Animals Shelter Seeks New Pet Owners

A coast animal shelter has gone on the road. On Saturday the Humane Society of South Mississippi sponsored an adopt-a-pet in front of Choice Supermarket in Long Beach. People got the chance to spend time with eight shelter dogs.

As of about 2 o'clock that afternoon none of the animals had been adopted, but workers say they're hopeful the exposure will help these animals find loving homes.

"They really don't know what kind variety of animals we have down there," said shelter worker Lanie Pugh. "This way we can come out and let people know this is something of what we have. If you are not interested in what we have here we have a lot more that you can choose from."

The Humane Society of South Mississippi is looking for volunteers to help out during adopt-a-pets planned for later in the month.

Saturday, August 17th Sonic on Courthouse Road in Gulfport.

14 years as part of the Ole Miss football program as a coach or player has prepared Matt Luke for this opportunity. Admittedly it doesn't come under the circumstances he might've envisioned. The Pascagoula Panthers open the 2017 football season on the road. In fact, their first three games are road contests. That scheduling quirk may give field turf crews just enough time to get War Memorial Stadium ready for the September 8 home opener. The wet weather in South Mississippi is placing quite the burden on construction workers as they attempt to complete stadium renovations. The project was suppose to be finished before the beginning of Pascagoula's football season.
