Moss Point Police Investigate Georgia Man's Murder

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Moss Point Police believe Tuesday's early morning murder was drug related. Around midnight, officers found a Georgia man shot in the back near a home at Community Street and MacPhelah Road. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Neighbors who live in the area told WLOX News that the community has become a drug haven, and many of them fear for their lives. Moss Point Police Chief Sheila Smallman acknowledged that drugs are a problem in the area, and said officers have been out to the neighborhood on several drug-related calls.

"Yes, it is a drug related area, and we have had problems in the past in this specific area. We are aggressively investigating this homicide at this time. We have also placed extra officers on the street, and we have interviewed numerous people," Chief Smallman said.

Police are looking for two people who may have committed the murder. One suspect is described as a heavyset black male, driving a dark gray Lincoln Continental. Investigators say they don't have a description on the second suspect at this time.
