Deputy's Body Arrives Home For Burial

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The body of Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy Fred Gaston came home Thursday. Gaston's casket arrived around 4:45pm at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

Family, fellow law enforcers and an honor guard from Keesler Air Force Base, along with the Color Guard from the Gulfport Police Department were there for a brief, solemn ceremony.

Gaston was gunned down Saturday during a robbery attempt in North Carolina. He was on his way to Virginia for Air Force Reserve Training.

The former Moss Point interim Police Chief was currently serving with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, and had worked for the Gulfport Police Department.

Visitation is Friday from 5pm to 8pm at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. It continues Saturday morning from 9:30am to 10:30am. A funeral mass will follow at the church.

Deputy Gaston will be buried at Biloxi National Cemetery.
