Tuck Calls For Early Childhood Development Program

Lieutenant Governor Amy Tuck says Mississippi needs to invest in early childhood programs to improve its future. Tuck addressed a Neshoba County Fair crowd Wednesday.

She says she'll propose that legislators set aside $1 million to conduct a study on how to improve pre-kindergarten educational offerings. Tuck, who is a Democrat, says the issue should "rise above partisan politics and turf battles.''

Democratic Governor Ronnie Musgrove listened to Tuck's speech with about 400 other onlookers. He says he has long supported expanding early childhood programs.

He said he is working with the private Barksdale Institute on a pilot project to improve several early childhood programs around the state by this fall.
