Lawmakers Approve Library At Naval Station Pascagoula

The House and Senate approved a bill Tuesday to allow the Jackson-George County Regional Library System to put a public library at Naval Station Pascagoula.

House Local and Private Committee Chairman Jim Simpson Jr., R-Long Beach, said the bill lifts for the Jackson-George library system a prohibition on spending public money to build a library in an area inaccessible to the general population.

Local officials said a public library on the base would be a convenient source of education and recreation for many people.
