Long Beach To Begin Public Housing Storm Repairs

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Even after the money was allocated, it took two years for the Long Beach Housing Authority to get the go ahead to rehabilitate the city's largest low income housing subdivision. But now officials are moving ahead with plans to renovate the 75 homes in Woodward Park that still bear scars of Hurricane Katrina.

Housing Authority Executive Director LaNelle Davis told WLOX News they now have draft plans and specifications from the architect, and they hope to let bids out in the next few months.

"The one on Railroad Street and the one around the corner on Girard, they will be demoed and they will be rebuilt. The rest of it is redoing all of them that were damaged, including the ones that are occupied, to update them and redo the inside," Davis said.

The renovations are projected to cost approximately $3.8 million.
