Ocean Springs Fire Chief Dropped From Suit

Ocean Springs Fire Chief Mark Hare has been dropped from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the city's first female firefighter.

Jolene Hammons became the city's first female firefighter in March 1999. She filed the one million dollar suit against Hare and the city after she left the department in April 2000. U-S Magistrate John M. Roper's dismissed Hare from the suit after the fire chief's attorney filed a motion in March.

In her suit, which represents only one side of the legal argument, Hammons cited harassment that included threatening e-mails. Hammons claimed that Hare did nothing to stop the harassment.

The lawsuit is scheduled for trial in Biloxi in September.
