Mississippi's International Art Exhibits

Art exhibitions sponsored in Jackson by the Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange:

  • 1996: "Palaces of St. Petersburg: Russian Imperial Style.'' Budget: $11.1 million, of which $1.5 million came from the state and $1 million from the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. Attendance: 554,
  • 1998: "Splendors of Versailles.'' Budget: $10.8 million, of which $2 million came from the state and $1 million from the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. Attendance: 271,
  • 2001: "The Majesty of Spain: Royal Collections from the Museo del Prado & Patrimonio Nacional.'' Budget: $9.4 million, of which $3 million came from the state and $1 million from the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. Attendance: 320,
  • Scheduled for 2004: "The Glory of Baroque Dresden.'' Budget: Anticipated $8.5 million to $9.5 million, of which $1 million has already been committed from the state. Jack Kyle, executive director of the commission said he hopes for another $2 million from the state and $1 million from the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bur

    A large crowd gathered in Gautier Monday morning, filling the hall of American Legion Post 1992, for the annual Memorial Day observance. Flags were presented, poems were read, and words of remembrance were shared during the hour-long ceremony.
