Three Die In I-59 Accident Near Louisiana Line

Three Picayune residents died when a pickup truck struck a tractor-trailer rig on Interstate 59 near the Mississippi state line.

Louisiana State Trooper Kevin Allen said both vehicles were southbound Monday, the tractor-trailer in the right lane, the pickup in the left. The driver of the pickup either lost control or tried to move into the right lane, striking the 18-wheeler. Allen says both vehicles ran off the right side of the road. Both drivers were hospitalized.

Three passengers in the pickup were killed. The victims were identified as Vanessa Jackson, the driver of the pickup truck, and passengers Precious Taylor and Angel Taylor, both 16.

A third passenger in the pickup, 72-year-old Aline Jackson is in stable condition today at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Michael McDougle, was treated for minor injuries and released.
