Waveland Karate Shows Well At Nationals

WAVELAND (WLOX) -- Students from Gulf Coast Shotokan Karate Club in Waveland, under the supervision of Rannie Ladner participated in the 2008 junior and senior Karate National Championships held in Albany, New York. 

The event was held at the University of Albany SEFCO Arena the week of June 30th through July 5th.There was approximately 3,000 competitors ranging in ages from five to adults. 

The Gulf Coast Shotokan Club national team has 8 members who have trained throughout the year competing in tournaments at the state and regional level in order to qualify for the national event.  The participants brought home 11 medals.

  • Evelyn Spencer 1st place in Kumite
  • Brianna Burchett- 2nd place Kata and 3rd in Kumite
  • Noah Maxwell-3rd in Kumite
  • Anne Scardino-3rd in Kumite
  • Raven Westbrook-1st in Kata and 1st in Kumite
  • Summer Maxwell- 3rd in Kumite 
  • Donte Benoit- 2nd Kumite and 3rd in Kata
