The family of a man in jail as a result of a deadly hit and run accident is reaching out the victim's family.
On Saturday night, friends and family of Roderick Flowers held a candlelight vigil on the corner of Pass Road and Acadian in Gulfport. That is near where Flowers was driving earlier this week when he ran over 43 year-old Maurice Whitlock, who was riding a bicycle. Whitlock later died, and Flowers was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
At the vigil a local pastor prayed for the families of both men. Friends say they organized the vigil after Flowers told them he wanted to help Whitlock's family somehow, but couldn't because he's in jail.
Deborah Manning, a friend of Flowers said "It's to do in remembrance out of respect for him and for the family to let them know that we really care and we extend our deepest sympathies to them and what happened in this accident. And if there's anything we can do, we'd like to do it."
Flowers' family members say they invited Maurice Whitlock's family to the vigil, but they had not yet arrived by the time WLOX news crews were leaving.
