Madison County Gets $1 Million For Water Upgrades At Nissan

The U.S. Department of Commerce has given Madison County $1 million for improvements to the water system at the Nissan plant under construction near Canton.

The plant is scheduled to open next summer, producing pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles and minivans. The plant will eventually employ 5,300. U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans announced the $1 million investment Tuesday in a news release.

"The Department of Commerce is pleased to partner with the people of Madison County," Evans said. "President Bush believes one way to create jobs is to grow the economy by encouraging investments in local communities."
