Tropical Storm Arthur Forms Off North Carolina Coast

That tropical depression off the North Carolina coast is now Tropical Storm Arthur.

It's the first tropical weather system of the current season.

Arthur is centered about 725 miles southwest of Sable Island, Nova Scotia. Movement continues to the east-northeast at about 23 miles an hour. That's taking the system out over the open Atlantic, where it's expected to turn north later in the week.

Top sustained winds are at about 50 miles an hour.

Little change in strength is expected during the next day or so. Arthur centered at latitude 36.4 north, longitude 69.7 west.
