Casinos Team With Biloxi To Help Prospective Homeowners

Casino workers on the Gulf Coast will get help with down payments on new homes.

The casinos have agreed in principle to set up payroll-deduction programs so employees can save money for down payments. They would match a percentage of what their employees save. Casinos are teaming with the city of Biloxi to establish the program.

Biloxi's director of community development David Staehling says the program is open to other employers interested in setting up payroll deductions for down payments on homes. Staehling says anyone who meets low- to moderate-income guidelines may qualify, regardless of whether they are employed by a casino.

The city plans to hold public meetings in about two months once specifics of the program are worked out.
