Fire Dogs Could Fold

There's a good possibility that the Mississippi Fire Dogs will cease operations, following four years of indoor football action.

Team owners Jim English and Don Rafferty and head coach Irvin Favre are scheduled to meet Tuesday with Fire Dogs Director of Marketing Ed Hennersey to decide the fate of the NIFL franchise.

The Fire Dogs closed out the 2002 season with a loss against the Louisiana Rangers on Saturday in the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, dropping the indoor club to 3 wins and 11 losses on the season.

Low attendance at most home games will most likely force the ownership to cease operations. That decision will be decided at the meeting.

The Fire Dogs said they averaged about 700 fans per game.
