DMR Gets New Leader

The Department of Marine Resources now has a new leader.

Gov. Ronnie Musgrove appointed William Walker to lead the Mississippi department of Marine Resources on Monday. Walker will oversee the department which is responsible for marine fisheries, coastal ecology, wetlands permitting, marine patrol, research, and water safety.

Walker has a PhD in soil microbiology and biochemistry from Mississippi State University, and he previously worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Walker is currently serving a detail in Washington D.C. and won't officially take over until next year.
