Officers Caught In Booby Trap

A Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agent and a Biloxi police officer are recovering after being shot at a home Tuesday night.

Police say shortly before seven, the two officers, who are part of the Narcotics Task Force, were serving a warrant at home on Big John Road in Harrison County. As the two men walked up to the house, police say they encountered some sort of booby trap with a shotgun rigged up. When the two officers tripped it, the gun went off, shooting them both.

The MBN agent, who was a Waveland police officer on loan to the state narcotics task force, was shot in the leg. The Biloxi officer received only superficial wounds. The officers were not identified.

The bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is heading up the investigation with assistance from the Biloxi bomb squad. It was not immediately clear if the suspect was at home when officers arrived.
