Memorial Day is a time to pay tribute to the men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice so that all of us can live in freedom. On this day we remember those brave souls who have died in military service to our country.
Memorial Day has its roots in the Civil War when Union soldiers were honored on what was then call Decoration Day. It became known as Memorial Day in 1882. After World War I, Memorial Day expanded to include anyone who died while serving in any war or military action.
Indeed, over the years thousands of people have died to protect the freedoms that we as American enjoy each day. Currently the Iraq War has taken thousands of lives as well.
We owe each of these American Heroes much gratitude and appreciation. Take some time this Memorial Day to pause, remember and pay tribute to our fallen heroes.
