Help Out Habitat

The nation's spotlight will be on South Mississippi this week as former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn lead volunteers in building Habitat for Humanity homes for Mississippi Gulf Coast residents.

More than two thousand volunteers from across the country will build 108 homes this week in Pascagoula and Biloxi.

Some of the volunteers are local residents who want to give back because Habitat or another relief agency has helped them.

It's going to be a massive undertaking.

We applaud President Carter and his wife for their dedication to Habitat and its mission and for choosing to come and build in South Mississippi.

The Carters bring national attention with them, and this will allow the country to see that we are rebuilding. But we still need help.

We also want to thank the many companies and agencies that have supplied money, materials and food, so this huge building program could happen this week.

We encourage local residents to call the local habitat office and volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity has and continues to be one of the organizations that is bringing affordable homes to the residents of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
