Barry's "O-fish-al" Bio

Barry Foster – Host/Producer

Gulf South Outdoors

Barry has been fishing and hunting along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi almost his entire life.  By the time he was five years old, Barry was accompanying his father, John Foster on weekly wade fishing trips to the barrier islands.

Barry learned at an early age to love the outdoors and from his father gained a deep respect for the natural environment that Barry says is truly a, “Gift from God.”

When the weather got too cold to fish, Barry could be found in a duck blind or following a pack of beagles on hunting trips across the great state of Mississippi.

As Barry became more experienced, and gained knowledge of the outdoors he was able to put his experience to work.  On his summer breaks while attending college, Barry had the good fortune to be a near shore fishing guide.  Following graduation, Barry went into the television business.  In 1989 he opened his production company, Fosterfilm, Inc.  Barry had already made a name for himself as a skilled videographer making the transition to Producer/Director a natural one.  Many of Barry’s early projects were commercials, but he had a desire to make documentaries, and would take on these kinds of projects every time the opportunity arose.

Following his marriage to the former Sandy Clark of Gulfport, Barry was blessed with two daughters that have learned to share his love of the outdoors.  Of course raising a young family meant more time working and less time outdoors hunting and fishing.  As his girls Katie and Kelsey got a little older, their activities became his family’s focus.  Barry loves his involvement in the girl’s activities, serving as coach and sponsor.

Now Barry is able to include his daughters and his wife in his love of fishing and hunting.  All of which accompanied him on his first episode of, “Gulf South Outdoors.”  The program came out of an idea to combine all of Barry’s interests and include his family.  “Gulf South Outdoors,” debuted on Sunday July 8, 2001.  With the help of WLOX, Barry’s idea became a reality.  We both hope that this will be a viable program for years to come.

This web page on WLOX’s web site is a companion site to the program. Each week Barry will try and not only give readers/viewers an overview of the program but will include interesting and timely information that you will find useful.  We hope that you will find this page a regular stop on your hunting and fishing experience.
