McDonald's Returns To Downtown Biloxi

BILOXI (WLOX) -- The McDonald's restaurant in downtown Biloxi is back in business.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the old restaurant at the foot of Main Street. The newly built replacement is more modern and much higher in elevation.

Friday, the new fast food restaurant hosted a grand opening. Even Ronald McDonald himself was there to entertain the kids.

Along with the more modern look, the building's much higher elevation is also quite evident.

"We're about 14 feet higher than we were with the old location that was here. So, it is kind of exciting. Had some customers coming by who kind of nicknamed it Fort McDonald's because every day they'd come in and see the wall get a little higher and higher. So, we're real excited," Kevin McKone with the McDonald's Corporation said.

The former McDonald's at that downtown Biloxi location had just been remodeled and was open for just five hours before shutting down as the storm warnings were posted for Hurricane Katrina.
