Another Nissan Shipment Coming To Gulfport

The State Port at Gulfport unloads another shipment of heavy equipment for the Nissan plant later this month.

Port director Don Allee says the shipment will weigh 5,850 tons. The unloading begins June 23rd.

This shipment is 66 percent heavier than the metal rollers and presses that arrived at the port May 2nd. The port usually doesn't handle such cargo. But Allee says because the first shipment was unloaded so smoothly, the port was in line for the second shipment, which is coming from the port of Yokohama, Japan.

The equipment will be used in the $930 million Nissan North America plant under construction in Madison County.
