Road Work Around Nissan Plant Could Cost $60 Million

Officials say the investment in road work by the state and Madison County to link suppliers to the Nissan plant could exceed $60 million.

New proposed work includes:

  • a nearly $7 million project to five-lane Old Jackson Road
  • a new east-west parkway from U.S. 51 to Mississippi 463
  • a connector road to the north that would parallel Interstate 55
  • and a new I-55 interchange north of Gluckstadt that would involve the east-west parkway.

Already underway and nearing completion is nearly $35 million in road work around the Nissan site.

Officials said the increased traffic expected between the site and Nissan will be key to the success of the overall Nissan project.

Chad Wages of the Mississippi Major Economic Impact Authority says the area around Gluckstadt and Nissan itself will become almost unrecognizable as improvements continue. Wages says if all of these projects fall into place the possibilities for development in the area will continue to abound.
