A sewage leak has shut down a section of the beach in Pass Christian.
The area being closed is between Hayden Avenue and Espy Avenue on the east end of the city.
The trouble began Tuesday morning when an open manhole cover began leaking sewage into the storm runoff system and then into the water. The spill has since been stopped, and city workers are trying to figure out what happened.
Workers with the sand beach authority spent much of Tuesday afternoon hammering "no swimming" signs into the sand.
The beach will remain closed until further notice. The water will be tested everyday to make sure it meets health standards.
