A jury began hearing evidence Monday afternoon in the embezzlement trial of Harrison County Chancellor Wes Teel.
Teel was indicted last December on 13 counts of embezzlement. Prosecutors say he pocketed $3,800 that the state reimbursed him for office expenses instead of paying the eight businesses he owed for the services.
Assistant court administrator Toni Ross testified on Monday that she prepared the vouchers for Teel to be reimbursed from the state. Ross testified Teel received the money but didn't pay the vendors and they began calling her wanting their money.
The trial continues on Tuesday.
