Hancock County Sheriff's officials say they have few leads into the shooting death of a 50-year-old man on Sunday night.
Authorities say Ronnie Eugene Huffman, 50, died Sunday night from a gunshot wound to the face. He was found lying face-down at the bottom of an enclosed stairwell that leads to his home at 6044 Sixth Street, just off of Harbor Drive in the Bayou Phillips community.
Authorities have few clues in the case and have turned to the public for help to solve this crime.
Hancock County resident Calvin Rose says his family was watching TV, winding down from a busy day when he heard a loud knock on his door.
"The neighbor's stepson knocked on our door about 9 o'clock asking to use the phone to call 911, that his father had been hurt and was bleeding. So we went next door to see what was going on and that's when we found him laying there," Rose said. "He was unconscious. He wasn't breathing."
Sheriff Investigators say a motive for the shooting hasn't been determined.
"Right now, it's too early in the investigation," Hancock County Sheriff Steve Garber said. "We are looking at every angle possible. We're doing a lot of interviewing right now. We're looking for any leads possible. Anybody with any information, we urge them to contact the sheriff's office."
