GULFPORT (WLOX) -- Harrison County is moving forward with a proposed noise ordinance that's been in the works for two years. At Monday's meeting, supervisors heard more about how the new law will be enforced.
The board looked at a portable decibel meter. That device would be used to measure noise levels when complaints are made.
The board's attorney says the electronic ear provides an objective means of determining if a loud noise violates the law.
"It will do the required readings for enforcement of this ordinance. It is certified, calibrated. We will order a re-calibration unit for it so it will be calibrated before each use so it will meet the standards each time," Gil Bailey said.
The proposed noise ordinance provides certain exceptions for things like construction work or special events.
