State Tax Collections Still Lagging Behind

Mississippi's tax collection revenues are again below estimates.

State Treasurer Marshall Bennett says the revenue for May was $33.3 million below estimates. Bennett says this year's sluggish tax collections could adversely impact next year's budget. However, he doesn't expect more budget cuts this year.

Revenue collections have fallen short of estimates every month since July 1st.

For May, the state estimated its tax collections at $308.74 million but collected only $275.44 million.

The state had estimated it would have three point $3.31 billion so far this year, but has received only $3.08 billion. That means the year-to-date tax collections are $232.97 million behind.
